Abstract

This study investigates demographic factors and public perceptions of edible insects as a sustainable protein source in Albania and Romania. Using survey data from both nations, age, gender, education, and sports involvement were examined to see how these characteristics impact awareness and willingness to consume edible insects. Based on demographics and cultural settings, the results complete the gaps in views toward edible insects. Younger people and those with higher education levels were more willing to sample edible insects, especially when discussing their nutritional value. In contrast, older generations were hesitant, citing unfamiliarity and cultural preferences as primary barriers. The research emphasizes the value of focused education and marketing methods in promoting edible insects as a viable protein source, particularly among younger and more educated customers. This study provides valuable information for policymakers, food sector stakeholders and sustainability activists looking to promote alternative proteins in varied cultural settings.
