Abstract

Grapevine cultivation over an extended period has led to a favorable evolution of Romanian viticulture, bringing social benefits through improved dietary regimes and contributing to the country's economy through the export of quality wine products. Nevertheless, contemporary challenges such as population growth and energy crises necessitate sustainable approaches. Waste from the wine industry, such as grape pomace, yeast, leaves, and vine canes, poses a significant environmental problem. Composting these wastes can provide a sustainable solution, generating compost with high agronomic value. Additionally, wine production generates waste that can be valorized in various industries to obtain innovative products. Sustainable management of grapevine waste can contribute to more efficient use of plant resources and reduce environmental impact. Moreover, the class of chemical compounds found in the Vitis genus has diverse applications, and their valorization can enhance horticultural production, as well as the textile, food, and pharmaceutical industries.
